Prefabricated Construction in Sri Lanka: A Proposed Adoption Strategy and a Pilot Case Study from Sustainability Perspective

Prefabricated construction (PFC) has increasingly been recognised as a viable solution that the potential to address typical issues of conventional construction. Portability, quick fixing ability, less labour intensity, massive for quality, productivity enhancements, and environmental savings are some most highlighted benefits PFC. Developed nations other industrialised regions have applying these methods more successfully compared developing economies such Sri Lanka. Lanka is slow in adopting PFC because inherent barriers. Thus, this study aims strengthen case shifting Firstly, current status Lankan context described, including barriers adoption. Subsequently, an adoption strategy proposed using learnings from successful countries. This framework discusses in-depth strategies/ initiatives overcome adopt prefabrication projects. Finally, pilot carried out assess sustainability perspective. The results show time slight improvements greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions than traditional selected studies. Reduced times huge positive impact on by cost on-site waste fuel electricity usage machines. outcomes can influence industry stakeholders, government academia, towards escalating use prefabricated technologies maximise project-specific benefits.
